questions on udf_mem_sz.

Dear all,

The V8.2 Information Center states "udf_mem_sz : UDFs no longer pass data in
shared memory, so this parameter is not supported". But you find some
programs displaying the udf_mem_sz still as a DBM CFG parameter.

I have tried to search more on the support site, but I get "No results
found" in clicking the following FAQ.

QUESTIONS:

1) Can you provide the answer of the above FAQ ?

2) I have a java UDF without SQL, that is declared as fenced threadsafe, in
V8.1 FP5.

Before, in V7, I would have had a fenced process allocating a udf_mem_sz in
private memory plus some java_heap_sz.

Now, in V8.1, can we assume that this udf_mem_sz has simply disapeared or
has it been integrated into another block, and which one ?

The reason I'm asking is that it seems to me the db2fmp process always
allocates some java_heap, as I always get 3 seconds uncompressible.

Thanks for your help,

Because that parameter doesn't exist any longer in V8. You can still set it
via db2 update dbm cfg using udf_mem_sz ... but that has no effect. The
statement is allowed to succeed (as no-op) for backward compatibility only.

The memory management inside DB2 is different in this respect. So I
wouldn't simply say that udf_mem_sz was merged into another heap. But the
ASL_HEAP_SZ is now the parameter that you need to tune.

What do you mean with "3 seconds uncompressible"?
