Cannot create an instance after deinstall DB2. Was told the instance already exists

Hello,
I installed DB2 UDB V8.1 on a linux machine, and then deinstalled it
because of some other problems. When I reinstalled it and tried to
create an instance with the same name again (db2inst1), I was told the
following error:
"The instance that is being created or migrated is already in the
instance list". I had this problem before and I was told to delete a
file called something like 'userllp' (I'm not sure), because deinstall
does not delete this file which has the list of instances created. I
tried to delete this file but I just cannot find it (maybe the name is
not right?). Can anyone help me please? Thanks.

See /var/db2/v81/profiles.reg

This has a list of the instances that exist(ed) on your box, and is
referenced by db2ilist, db2icrt, etc.
