Db2 7.1 installation on Suse Linux 9

Hello.

I am fairly new to linux so bare with me.

I am trying to install Db2 for Workgroups 7.1 on a Suse Linux 9. I
am logged as root (well, su root) and I am calling db2setup (residing
on the CD) form the "/" directory (the exec command line is
/media/cdrom/./db2setup).

I´m getting the following error:

"Internal error: DBI1502E An error was encountered when opening or
reading from file, /tmp/.db2inst.swap."

Does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Killer,

What are the permissions on the /tmp directory? Can you create a file in
there from the command line (before launching db2setup)?

The DB2 Linux HOWTO troubleshooting section
(http://tldp.org/HOWTO/DB2-HOWTO/db2t...html#tsinstall) says
*
9.1.1. * When I try to run *db2setup*, I get the following error:
DBI1503E An error was encountered when opening or writing to file,
"/tmp/.dbinst.swp".

DB2 issues this error when it can't find the *pdksh* or *ksh* shells.
This has probably occurred because
you did not install the pdksh package for your distribution. See
Section 3 <http://tldp.org/HOWTO/DB2-HOWTO/preplinux.html> for more
details on installing
the *pdksh* package for your Linux distribution.

Note that the HOWTO doesn't cover SuSE Version 9 specifically, but it
does cover DB2 Version 7, so the general information might help you in
your quest.

Ah right. Another solution: use DB2 v7.2 - it no longer has the pdksh
requirement for installation, but only for cluster support in EEE and
HA support on any server.

does cover DB2 Version 7, so the general information might help you in
