steps to upgrade to 8.1

sea
Hi, I have db2 workgroup 7.2 and am planning to upgrade to 8.1
workgroup server edition. Could someone please tell me if the order in
which I do this as listed below is correct?

ON THE SERVER
---------------
1. stop all db2 services
2. install db2 8.1 (I guess this should automatically upgrade the
earlier version?)
3. install the latest fixpak for 8.1

ON THE CLIENT
----------------
1. install 8.1 runtime client or administation client
2. install the same fixpak version on the client as on the server

Is there anything else I need to do?

Thank you very much!

which I do this as listed below is correct?

ON THE SERVER
---------------
1. stop all db2 services On Windows, the DB2 Install will give you an option to stop all DB2 services 2. install db2 8.1 (I guess this should automatically upgrade the
earlier version?) On Windows yes - on UNIX/Linux you have to migrate the instance using
db2imigr 3. install the latest fixpak for 8.1 - on Windows, you can get a complette image of the latest fixpak and
skip step 2 - see my other reply to your question on clients

4. migrate databases using the migrate database command

ON THE CLIENT
----------------
1. install 8.1 runtime client or administation client
2. install the same fixpak version on the client as on the server - on Windows, you can get a complette image of the latest fixpak - see
my other reply to your question on clients
3. you should rebind - if you read about the MIGRATE DATABASE command in
the DB2 Command Reference manual, it discusses optional post-migration
steps (i.e. db2rbind, updating statistics, etc.)

Is there anything else I need to do?

Thank you very much!
