I am using the latest trial version of DB2 on Windows.
I would like to modify the contents of a table and Control Center allows
me to view the contents by right clicking on the table name selecting "sample
contents". But it seems it give me back a read only view. Is there a way
to change the contents via the gui?
Yes, use the Command Center and issue an SQL statement like INSERT, UPDATE,
or DELETE against the table you want to change. You can launch the Command
Center from the Control Center; it's the one that has "C:>" in the icon.
(I'm running V7.2 and you're probably running V8.1.x so I'm not sure if the
icons are the same.)
If you mean that you don't want to type an SQL statement at all, you can
build one. The Interactive tab of the Command Center has a button for "SQL
Assist". If you press that and fill in the appropriate boxes on the Logon
tab of SQL Assist, you can build your query a step at a time. You specify
the table you want, then the columns, row conditions, etc. until you have
built your query. Then you press the Run button in SQL Assist to execute the
statement.
