connecting to as/400 database

We have a database we wish to port to an as/400 running v4r5. Have
got db2 connect. The problem is we cannot sort out the different
terminologies between windows and as/400. The as/400 people have
created a test database but we cannot connect to it. Under their
terminology there is not such thing as a new database, the whole
system is a single database and they create files inside this.
Therefore when they type DSPRDBDIRE they just get a couple of entries,
one of which apparantly covers all the databases. Under my terminolgy
there is a database entry such as used in create database xxx.
Also, when trying to open the control centre and get a list of tables
of this 'database' I get a message saying that SYSIBM is not a valid
name therefore sysibm.systables cannot be access.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Trevor Davies.

Do you need help with a particular problem?

The CREATE DATABASE statement really provides no values in the iSeries (AS/400)
architecture, so that's why it is not supported.

You need to make sure that the latest PTFs/fixes are on the AS/400 server. DB2
Control Center does not really support AS/400, so not sure I'd mess with that.
Look at using iSeries Navigator graphical interface instead.

Most iSeries customers also dont use DB2 Connect, they just use the ODBC or JDBC
driver included with the operating system.
