Security in a Web-based application

AK
Moving a client-server application with, say, 200 users to the Web,
the application server will have, say, 30 connections. So far I don't
see the way to keep old fashioned security on this situation. I don't
see how to use traditional security:

GRANT BLA-BLA-BLA TO USER SOME_USER
REVOKE BLA-BLA-BLA FROM USER ANOTHER_USER

because one and the same connection will be re-used for different
users.
