Administrating configuration data on clients

Hi everybody,

already googled and RTFM'ed some IBM documents, but still I'm a bit puzzled
on how to manage Joe Sixpack's DB2 client configuration.

For example, the databases on (Windows) servers BOX1 and BOX2 are relocated
to (Windows) BIGBOX3. A few hundred people (also Windows) have to change their
client configuration, most of them have no local admin priviledges. The
DNS-guys are unwilling to create DNS-aliases.

Is there a way of having a central configuration, where I would update
node/db directories and all clients would benefit from this? We are talking
about UDB 7.2 Fixpack 11 currently running on NT server (also NT clients),
about to move to Windows 2003 (server) and Win XP (clients).

TIA Frederick

Indicated email address is only my (unread) spam-bucket, I'm reachable as

This can be done with LDAP, and I believe it's also possible to store this
information in Active Directory. This still requires a visit to each
end-user's workstation.

What kind of infrastructure does your company have for rolling out software
upgrades do developer workstations (like Microsoft SMS)? You may be able
to integrate changes into that software also.
Good luck,

Frederick,

DB2 supports LDAP. You can use an LDAP server for the database and node
directories and have your clients point to the LDAP server.

Hi Ian, hi Bill,

thank you very, very much for your valueable information. LDAP seems
definately the way to go for us.

I'm already "eating" the Administration Guide in order to set up things.

Kind regards Frederick
