W2K did not restart DB2 service as specified in the 'Recovery' properties setting

nek
Greetings,

I'm using DB2 WSE V8.1 FP2 on W2K SP4.

Right clicking 'properties' from 'DB2 - DB2' service (Admin Tools ->
Services), then selecting 'recovery' tab allows me to select
computer's response if the service fails.

So I choose 'restart the service' for first failure and 'reboot the
computer' for second failure. Click 'Apply' and 'OK' to confirm this
selection.

I then stop the 'DB2 - DB2' service thinking that W2K will restart the
service after one minute. But nothing happens.

Changing 'Log On As' for the service from 'db2admin' to 'LocalSystem'
makes no difference.

Anyone has any ideas why the setting is not effective.

Many Thanks!

Just a guess, but probably W2K considers it a regular stop, not a
failure. Maybe if you find out which db2sysc process is used by the
service and you stop it from the Task Manager it will be restarted?

You're right. Killing the process (from task mgr) is different from
stopping the service. It worked.

Thanks again!

An operator's stopping a service is not considered a failure, rather it is a
legitimate operator action.
