Problem with installation of DB2 UDB ESE on Solaris2.8

Hi all,

I am trying to install DB2 Universal Database Enterprise Server Edition v8.1
(db81eeso.zip) on a Blade2000 running Solaris 2.8 (with latest Recommended
patches installed) with 512M RAM and 600M Swap .

I can invoke the Java GUI interface (db2setup) to install . The options I
chose is a typical installation , 32bit instance without tool catalog .
But when I examine the log /tmp/db2setup.err , it has some lines of
"Segmentation Fault - core dumped" , and for /tmp/db2setup.log , the
pkgadd command are all successful . But when db2 do the license registration
, error starts appear :

Installation of <db2essg81> was successful.
Installing DB2 file sets:.......Success
ERROR:The installation of the license file
"/export/share/src/DB2_81/007_ESE_SUN_3264_NLV/ese/db2/solaris/../license/db
2ese.lic" using the command "/opt/IBM/db2/V8.1/adm/db2licm -a
/export/share/src/DB2_81/007_ESE_SUN_3264_NLV/ese/db2/solaris/../license/db2
ese.lic"
did not complete successfully. The error data is "". The Return value
was"139".

Then I apply the FixPak2 (ese812so.zip) for DB2 v8.1 , and run the
registration license command again :

"/opt/IBM/db2/V8.1/adm/db2licm -a
/export/share/src/DB2_81/007_ESE_SUN_3264_NLV/ese/db2/solaris/../license/db2
ese.lic"

It still returns "Segmentation fault" error.

I downloaded the installation files (db81eeso.zip) and FixPak (db812so.zip)
from IBM DeveloperWorks Toolbox subscription
(http://www-106.ibm.com/developerwork...ion/downloads/) . These zip
files are decompressed by unzip541(info-zip) . I wonder if any one has
simliar problem before . Please give me some pointers on what may go wrong .
Thanks for any information on it.

Best Regards,
Phyllis

What processor is this? Is it an UltraSPARC, or another processor? As
far as I'm aware, *only* UltraSPARCs are supported. I only ask because
having the wrong processor causes exactly the same problem, although,
I assume that when the docs at
http://www-3.ibm.com/cgi-bin/db2www/...n=r0004696.htm
say "Solaris UltraSPARC-based computer" that UltraSPARC III's are
allowed...

Thanks for your informatoin . IBM Scholar tech support's replied that a
solaris kernel patch is missing : 108827-35 . Since 108827-35 is obsoleted
by 108993-18 now , so after I installed 108993-35 . The segmentation fault
problem gone .
