Installing DB/2 8.1 on RedHat Advanced Server Version 3

Hi all,

Sure this must have been covered before. I'm in the process of
building a RH Advanced Server version 3 system and was wondering if it
is a supported platform for Vsn 8.1

At the moment, my production 8.1 servers are running on RH 7.2 systems
- which I am planning on upgrading/rebuilding to RH AS.

If it is supported, any gotchas or things I should look out for?

Supported distros are listed here:

http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data...inux/validate/

Alex,

Can't remember all details, but maybe this will prompt somebody else...

But one to watch out for is, I think RH AS3 has some sort of dependency on
only using JDK >= 1.4.1, something to do with threading?

DB2 doesn't formally support that JDK level yet...

Sorry for the fluffy answer.

Paul.

if you want to use the GUI tools, you'll need JDK 1.4.1. Check out
IBM's FAQ on DB2 and RHEL3, it is covered well there. (sorry I don't
have that link right in front of me).

To install DB2 8.1 do the following

1. Install IBMJava2-SDK-1.4.1.
2. cd /opt
3. Create a synbolic link to the 1.4.1 SDK effectively
renaming it the 1.3.1 SDK. (ln -s IBMJava2-141 IBMJava2-131)
4. Rename the java in the package to install. For example,
5. cd 009_ESE_LNX_32_NLV/db2/linux
6. mv java java.old
7. ln -s /opt/IBMJava2-141 java
8. From the 009_ESE_LNX_32_NLV directory, run ./db2setup.
