What ARE these HFS datasets for? (Os/390)

I have four datasets named

DSN610.SDESHFS
DSN610.SDMBHFS
DSN610.SDSNHFS
DSN610.SDTWHFS

That gobble up 400 cylinders

I can't copy them to my 2.7.0 OS/390 as there is an OS/390 bug
preventing restores to non-SMS for HFS -- but...

My DB2 doesn't seem to care they are missing. And what pigs! SDESHFS
is 4500 tracks 1% used (GET OUT of my tree! I need the lumber!)

They are r/o, so I can't see what possible good they do.
(Documentation on what they are?? Ha, Ha Ha, Ha!)

Someone, please expand!

TIA

Larry

p.s. I don't have enough SMS room, to just plunk them down ANYWAY

Search for : SDSNHFS
It's an optional step for jdbc/sqlj install support.

....
7.1.3 Optional Step: Allocate HFS data set
If you prefer to install DB2 JDBC and SQLJ in a separate HFS data set,
rather than the root file system, use the following sample JCL to allocate
an HFS data set:
....

You can try to search for the others.

Can't you just compress/free the unused space?
