UDB 8.1 CLI/ODBC Schema Support for DB2/VM 7.2

Can anyone explain to me the significance of the new procedures for
implementing CLI/ODBC access to DB2/VM 7.2 from a UDB 8.1 client? The
new procedures involve creating a bunch of stored procedures on the
DB2/VM platform. It is interesting to note that the names of the stored
procedures exactly parallel the names of the ODBC catalog tables used with
the CLISCHEMA option. This strongly suggests that the stored procedures
may be intended to replace the CLISCHEMA option. Is the CLISCHEMA
option in UDB still effective? If it is used, are the stored procedures
still used?
I sure don't want to lose the benefit of using the CLISCHEMA option. ODBC
performance without using CLISCHEMA is just abysmally bad. Even if the new
stored procedures improve performance, CLISCHEMA provides a nice way to
limit what tables the end-user can see.

Thanks for any feedback.
