I have a quick question on how to qualify table names as it relates to "dbo" vs. user names. Suppose that I am a user named "dwuser1", and that I need to create a table named "dw_stage_1". Do I use dbo as in "dbo.dw_stage_1" or do I use "dwuser1.dw_stage_1" for the qualified table name? Are both OK? If so, what would be the implications of each?

Hello, we are planning to port an application from one database to different others, including DB2. While reading the GettingStarted document for DB2 Personal Edition I got a little confused about the allowed length for object names. Did I understand this correct: table names -> 128 characters (if ANSI characters)

Is it possible to copy a table from one schema to another schema by just copying the frm file to the directory for the new schema? What is the best way to create a new database with all the tables in it automatically? I was hoping to have the tables (the frm files) included in a subdirectory and when required, just create a new schema then copy all the frm files into it.

Hi all, I thought this might be handy for others at some point, so here it is... a bit of code to output all the table names, field names and datatypes from a MySQL database. I just had to do it for some documentation, and didn't fancy writing it all down longhand... $t_result = mysql_query("SHOW tables"); if ($t_result!=false){ while ($t_row =@ mysql_fetch_array($t_result)){

Using SQL Server 2000 and moving to a new computer. We did a full backup of the existing database to tape, brought up the new computer with a clean install using the same server name and IP address, and did a full restore. Not only were some permissions messed up, but Crystal Reports 10 and some Access Data Projects refused to run. I finally discovered while running an SP_WHO that the individual database names that we'd created (meaning...

I wihsh to discuss whether to use fully qualified names: ..object of objects to operate (create, query..) on is good or not? If someone change order of sql code blocks in my script - this may cause lose of it's context (like: use master / use <mydb>..). I wish to have my sript independed on changes like this and always produce correct result. Does using full name make use of 'use <db>' statement unnecessary?

I want to generate a list of table names into a file in the order of FK dependencies. The purpose is to truncate all tables in a given database/schema by using the generated file in a "for loop". I use "Load from /dev/null..." or "Import.." command to truncate the tables. The database is IBM DB2 V 9 on an AIX platform. The below query gave me a list of tables that aren't parents, in other words list of Children that aren't parents. I need help...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
