Can somebody help me. Is it a good method to transfer large data accros network? The query returns about 1 milion rows, and I must transfer them to client application and generate .xml files. Unfortunatelly it takes more then hour (sometimes I get timeout exception) :(.
Query takes about 1min, so transfer is a big problem :|.

We have a webservice that returns a datasets to the client application as the return type of the webmethod. The webservice is running on Windows Server 2003 standard edition, IIS 6.0. The box is a pentium III Xeon with 2 gigs of RAM. I did a little test on the test box to see how fast it would return a dataset of about 66K records (about 6 fields in width). It took about 2 minutes, 40 secs. If I pull the data strait from Oracle it...

Every now and then I see ads that state something like "Experience with Large Databases ...multi-gig...blah-de-blah" And I have to laugh. What's the difference between a large or small database? A table is a table, a record is a record, a field is a field. All you are doing is manipulating data in tables. I wouldn't think it'd make much difference in working with a table with 10 records or a billion records...they're nothing more than...

Dear All, I'm currently developing a solution where large amounts of personalised emails are being created (and no, this is not spam...) on the ASP.NET platform and being delivered by a Debian Linux server running Qmail and mySQL. Currently the .NET application just connects to the SMTP-port on the Linux server and sends each mail one by one. This creates an awful lot of traffic and isn't really a good way of handling >100.000...

This is mainly a speed question. In this example: I have a QuotesHdr table that has a few memo fields. If these memo fields are used extensively by some users, and if their are a large number of records in QuotesHdr, should I break out the memo fields into a separate table? The thinking here is that, for Quotes selection dropdowns that display all entries in QuotesHdr for selection, I would think that the entire record comes down over...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
