What is this referring to in the Administration Guide: Performance

Hi all,

I was doing some research on tuning sheapthres and sortheap and ran
accross this at the boulder public lib:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infoce...n/c0005404.htm

In here it states:
_______________ _______________ _______________ _______________ _______________ _
You can use the database system monitor and benchmarking techniques to
help set the sortheap and sheapthres configuration parameters. For each
database manager and its databases:

Set up and run a representative workload.
For each applicable database, collect average values for the following
performance variables over the benchmark workload period:
Total sort heap in use
Active sorts
Set sortheap to the average total sort heap in use for each database.
_______________ _______________ _______________ _______________ _______________ _

What does it mean by "Total sort heap in use ". I looked up and down
in a snapshot against all monitors and did not find a parameter that
matched that. Where do I find this figure??

SORTHEAP is a db cfg parm.
SHEAPTRESH is a DBM cfg parm.

Total sort heap is the summ total of all sortheaps assigned across all
databases of the instance at the time of the snapshot.

First of all, I'm an Asian and I need to input Japanese, Korean and so on. I've tried many PHP IDEs today, but almost non of them supported Unicode (UTF-8) file. I've found that the only Unicode support IDEs are DreamWeaver 8 and Zend PHP Studio. DreamWeaver provides full support for Unicode. However, DreamWeaver is a web editor rather than a PHP IDE. It only supports basic IntelliSense (or code completion) and doesn't have anything...

in March, i posted a essay “What is Expressiveness in a Computer Language”, archived at: http://xahlee.org/perl-python/what_is_expresiveness.html I was informed then that there is a academic paper written on this subject. CASE 1: The following sentences were copied from the book "Administration Guide Performance". "If more pages have been written to disk, recovery of the database is faster after a system crash because the database manager can rebuild more of the buffer pool from disk instead of having to replay transactions from the database log files." My question is:

Maybe I'm missing something, but it doesn't look like Microsoft writes a lot of apps in .Net (although they certainly push it for others). What does MS write using pure .Net? If applications like Symantec's antivirus, NeatReciepts or Franklin Covey's PlanPlus for Windows is any guide, .Net applications are slow and clunky. But, maybe the developers of these apps simply don't know how to write a decent app with .Net.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
