Using Virtual IP addresses with HADR in addtion to automatic client reroute

A consultant has recommended to us that we use virtual IP addresses for our
HADR databases (the virtual IP address is moved when the primary database is
moved to other server), even though automatic client reroute should be able
to point applications to the correct primary HADR database. The consultant
is concerned about a split brain (both servers think they are the primary),
especially when the original primary server crashes, an HADR takeover by
force is issued on the standby, and then the server is brought back

I have not seen anything in IBM documentation or the TSA/HADR white papers
that recommends using virtual IP addresses if automatic client reroute is
available. Does anyone have thoughts or real world experiences on this

Anyone running HADR using VERITAS Cluster Server (VCS)? Our production outsourcing company has recommended to use VCS instead of Tivoli System Automation (TSA) for heartbeat monitoring on Linux. Another question. We assume that automatic client reroute can be used with Type 4 drivers for J2EE, and that we the type 4 driver version that is distributed with DB2 Release 8.2. Is that correct? What is the typical delay that people are...

I'm trying to use the client reroute feature of the DB2 Universal JDBC driver. I found documentation on this in the "Application Development Guide: Programming Client Applications" in the section "DB2 Universal JDBC client reroute support". In order to implement client reroute, we need to use the class DB2ActiveServerList. However, this class is not present in the file IBM\SQLLIB\java\db2jcc.jar (couldn't find the file...

If server 01 running HADR in the primary role crashes, and the DBA does a HADR takeover by force on the 02 server to switch roles, then the 02 server is now the primary. What happens when the Server 01 is brought back up? It still thinks it is the primary because that was its role when it crashed and it does not know about the takeover by force command that was issued. Does the 01 server check the 02 server to see what role they are in...

Hi, I'm working with a customer that is trying to find a solution to provide geographical redundancy. Our application is currently using IBM DB2 v8.2. I have a couple of questions with regards to HADR: 1. DB2 HADR (Can it be used to support geographical redundancy in a nested fashion (ie. Synchronous HADR at a site, and ASYNCRONOUS between sites using the same instances/databases). If so how would we set it up?

I was hoping I might be able to get an answer regarding DB2 and HADR. Let me preface this by saying that I know very little about networking and I'm not familiar with the HADR product or clustering. But, I've been asked to research a couple issues for a client. They are thinking about implementing HADR. They have DB2 production databases running on more than one box. Does a liscense for HADR need to be purchased for each production box...

Hi, I want to test HADR in a windows environment. As default in DB2 there's only a manual takover possible. Are there some scripts available how I can automate this? I've found only some whitepapers with an automatic takover with HACMP and TSA. Regards Hobbit

Hi all, I am currently setting up our Java apps running in JBoss to use DB2 HADR capabilities with automatic reroute. My understanding is that I need to use the DB2DataSource for this to work. The problem is that the JBoss connection pooling uses it's own DataSource but the DB2Driver. Does anybody know if this will still work, or if there is a way to do automatic reroute without the DB2DataSource. Or better yet, how to make this all...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
