No experiences with UDB 8.2 on Linux Suse

We are going to have UDB-DB on Linux, with a 20 GB database,
and have no experiences on this platform
Which is the optimal
- file system for the database
- data, logs, indexes on different partitions or disks ?
- location for the database (var , opt ??)
- Linux-settings ?
Thanks in advance for tips

Linux runs DB2 just fine.
There are two types of filesystems available under Linux: Journaling and
non-Journaling. It might be best to place the logs on a journaling
filysystem (EXT3/REISERFS/JFS/XFS) and the database on a non-journaling
filesystem (EXT2)

For the data, logs, indexes you should make your own considerations like
you would under any OS where you want to use DB2. But it's possible
nontheless.

Location for the database: again: up to you. Normally placed in the
instance user home directory, but you could place it in /var/db2 or
/database or whatever.

DB2 sets its own kernel parameters, so this is good. You should consider
using kernel 2.6, since it speeds up the entire OS. If you want to avoid
too much memory swapping you could alter the swappines kernel parameter.

We're running DB2 8.2 in a SuSE 9.1 Enterprise environment, and never
had any performance issues. (though it's a pre-production environment).

Hi. I am reasonably experienced with Python (and love it!) on Windows. I am a programmer that toils in c++ on Win 32 mostly but just to learn more, I am playing with Suse 9. Linux. Of course the first thing I tried to fire up was Python. From the command line, I can access Python 2.3 with no problem. I tried to run / search for IDLE...

The war of the OSes was won a long time ago. Unix has always been, and will continue to be, the Server OS in the form of Linux. Microsoft struggled mightily to win that battle -- creating a poor man's DBMS, a broken email server and various other /application/ servers to try and crack the Internet and IS markets. In the case where they...

Does the support appease...

Hi All! I am wanting to setup/run PostgreSQL on my server (a SuSE Linux 9.2 distro) but I'm not quite sure which way to go. I have a few books on PostgreSQL but they don't seem to match the way SuSE has installed it. The books explain how to install/make/etc. and then how to setup a "cluster". The directory structure differs alot from the...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows.
