Is the Database Administration Service part of the standard installation or an option?

I just got pointed at a number of DB2 databases and found that the DAS
has not been enabled on the server they reside upon.

I'm trying to get an understanding of whether the DAS is installed as
a standard part of the server and the service has been disabled, or
whether you need to include it as an option during the install
process.

Is enabling the DAS simply the process of starting a process that
currently resides on the server or does there have to be another pass
at installation?

Just the facts please, no discussions of why this was done.

Thanks in advance!

I think you have to distinguish "installati on" from "creating" a DAS
instance. The software is installed, but it is up to you whether to create a
DAS instance. Just like it is up to you whether to create a default DB2
instance at installation.

To create a DAS instance, check out the dascrt command (Create a DB2
Administration Server) in the Command Reference manual.

Also note that even if the DAS is created, it must be started (db2admin
start) by the DAS instance owner, or set to autostart in the configuration
parms.

I am busy packaging our product as a standard Setup project in VS.NET that uses a bunch of merge modules (basically, a merge module for every key infrastructure component in our system). Part of the installation needs to "dump" a bunch of files (third party product's project files) to the user's system. These files are transient in nature in that the user may choose

Hi all I just saw an ad in the latest ComponentSource newsletter for a database engine called VistaDB 3.0. http://www.vistadb.net/default.asp It looks very interesting as a database engine for smaller applications where you would normally use access. Plus it can be embedded into the exe.

(Hope I'm posting this correctly, otherwise - sorry!, don't know what else to do) I wrote a set of programs "many" years ago, running in a type of basic, called "Thoroughbred Basic", a type of business basic. I need to re-write it, bring it kicking and screaming to run on Windows XP. This is for a video rental place, tracks movie and game rentals, customers, employee transactions, reservations, does reports,..... and on. I know some of...

I have not touched a Windows Service app since my MCAD certs (about 5 years ago...) I've just been assigned to write a quickie app. I could use a 2nd opinion here. The app is to be written in Dot Net 2.0 (VB). Probably all it will do is monitor a directory (at intervals controled by a timer), do some stuff with text files, and ftp text files to an ftp. I believe I've successfully tested most of the techniques I'll be using but I was...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
