Very Basic Question: What is the DB2 Admin. Server (DAS) used for and is it ...

required to run/administer DB2 Connect? I installed Version 8.1
onto AIX 5.1 and was able to configure DB2 Connect without any
problem. I then did the installation on another box and the I
believe the DAS instance is causing problems. Is it required to
install the DAS?

Its main functions:
* Run locally the remotely submitted administrative commands and/or
tasks from the GUI.
* Is the communication interface to the discovery process used in the
configuration assistant.
* Support the running of the graphic interfaces (Control center,....).
* Support the Task Center and its scheduling functions.
I'm sure other people can add to this.

It has nothing to do with DB2 Connect. That product or function
provides connectivity to DRDA (z/OS,AS/400,..) DB2 systems.

DAS is not required to run your systems. It provides additional
capabilities that are highly needed.

You can run your DB2 AIX and/or DB2 Connect servers without having
installed the DAS. You will be able to connect to them and their
databases but you will lose a lot of functionality and have to do
everything from the command line environment.

Hi Pierre,

Thanks so much. One more question please?

You can run your DB2 AIX and/or DB2 Connect servers without having
installed the DAS. You will be able to connect to them and their
databases but you will lose a lot of functionality and have to do
everything from the command line environment.

So if I have DAS running on AIX, I can use the Windows DB2 Connect GUI
to configure my DB2 Connect on AIX? Ie. If I don't want to do
everything command line, how do I do it via GUI interface?

Thanks,

Mary Jane

Your install process should give a choice to install the GUI on the CD
you use to install DB2 Connect as well as the Configuration Assistant.
Use the CA to determine your connection and catalog the target db.

Yes. You can administer your AIX DB2 from your Windows Administration
client.

I'm trying to get DNS set up properly on my box under Win2kAS. I'm a DNS newbie, so please go easy. :) Everything appears to be (mostly) there, with one significant annoying exception. I've set up "mydomain.net" as a forward lookup zone in the DNS console. I've set up admin and www as hosts, so that I have subdomains: people can visit www.mydomain.net and admin.mydomain.net without a problem.

Using Oracle 8i enterprise on win 2000 (sp3) Installed the standard configuration & whenever I make a connection it takes about 10 secs. It's running on a P1900 with 1gb Ram so no reason there for slowness. Once I'm connected the queries work pretty much instantanously but to connect using SQLPLUS, Toad, ODBC, OLEDB all take about 10 secs. I connect using OLEDB from Visual Basic development environment & after the 1st connection...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
