Macbook Pro Retina or Macbook Air? Sysadmin & Developer

I am programmer that works mainly with cloud services. I want a new laptop/workstation that is mobile.

Are macbook air's powerful enough for system administration, coding? Or should i opt for a macbook pro retina. They seem to have beefier specs. But is it necessary7?

Hi seekingadvice and welcome to bytes.com!

Yes, the MacBook Air is powerful enough for such tasks; I have colleagues who use MacBook Airs for that kind of job and they seem perfectly happy. Personally I prefer the better specs of the MacBook Pro but either should be fine. And the Air is much lighter of course.

My vote goes to MacBook Pro. Performance matters a lot when you have to execute a task within a deadline.
