Why does nothing start when I restart the computer?

Hi,
I am facing problem in starting the desktop. This is what exactly happens-
1. I press the CPU button to start the computer.

2. The three locks leds blink once, means that the current is reaching there.

3. But after that, nothing happens. Neither the keyboard works, nor the monitor. There is no signal in the monitor. What could be the reason? Is it bios related? Any suggestions, like what could be tried for this. I would like to do it myself.

Thanks

Can you access the BIOS? I would Google "<your computer type> bios"

Usually you can hit F12 or Tab or something to get to it, but I found over the weekend I had to hold the Esc key (thinkpad 600) on boot.

If you can get into the BIOS, I would look to see what the configs are in there, where you're trying to boot from, etc...

Another thing is to check your cables - make sure you haven't hit your desk and dislodged your monitor cable by accident, etc...

Here's what works for me:
Open the case
Use a vacuum cleaner to suck out all the dust (there may be a lot)
Remove the RAM, blow it off, then put it back it.
Try to boot. If that doesn't work go on to daughter boards. One at a time, starting with what you really don't need to boot the computer (like modem):
Pull the board out and try to boot. It you don't have success with that one you can put it back (I leave it out and make a note "not this one") If you do have success, try putting it back in - very carefully, making sure that it seats properly. If the computer now boots, you have fixed the problem by reseating the daughter board. If not, you may have a bad daughter board.

I recently threw away an old video card that was caused such problems. The built-in video works just fine anyway, so why have it in there??

Hope that helps.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the help. I cleaned up all the things inside the pc. Took out all the removable stuff and then put it back. And now it is working. :-))
