mudflap and/or valgrind explanation?

what is the uses of the
-mudflap
and
-valgrind
tags when compiling a program in gcc?

Mudflap:
Wikipedia defines a mudflap as "a tool for detecting dangling pointers". Or if you want an explanation from gcc, here you go.

Valgrind:
Valgrind is, again according to Wikipedia, a "programming tool for memory debugging, memory leak detection, and profiling". The -valgrind switch will activate the use of Valgrind.
