How to analyse the core dump in gdb? <repeats 21 times>

hey i am new in gdb debugging field.
can anyone tell me the meaning <repeats 21 times>, in the following.
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. (gdb) print *(pthread_attr_t *)pt_attr
  2. $5 = {
  3.   __size = "\000\000\000\000\000\000\000\000\001\000\000\000\000\020", '\000' <repeats 21 times>,
  4.   __align = 0
  5. }

it means the previous value, '\000' was repeated 21 times.

You can switch off the repeat message using the command

set print repeats 0

what does '\000' means?why is it showing this error?
