Array

I want to make an array of variable number. I will ask the user to input the number of elements he is going to enter and create the array accordingly.
I was thinking something like this:

int main()
{
int number;
scanf("%d",&number);
int array[number]
And the rest of my program.

But whenever I try this it gives segmentation error. Please help!!

You will need to create your array on the heap rather than on the stack:

int* array = (int*)malloc(number * sizeof(int));
 

Don't forget to call free() when you are done with the array.

1)If you are using array , it should have constant as a range , meaning that value should have known at compile time . But you have number which is var and will get value only during runtime .

2)Second , if you have variable length , then plan to use pointer and allocate memory dynamically and free once you are done .

3) If you are using C++, I would suggest you to use STL like vector rather than Arrays/Pointers. Memory for vector is handled by Library and comes with many functions to operate on .
