Hello,

Till now, I had been studying from C++ primer 4E (which I got from library). I recently got the same book but 3E (3rd edition) of my friend. I just wanted to know if the 3E of book has got good content OR Do I need to upgrade to latest 4E?

Thanks.........

The 3rd eddition was produced in 1998, from it's cover it sounds like the first edition that supported the C++ standard.

I imagine that while the language was change excessively between 1998 and 2005 (4th edition publish date) that there could have been some radical changing in the approach to programming in C++.

However you have access to both editions (your friends 3rd edition and the 4th edition at the library). Look in the preface to the fourth edition see what it says the changes are, and compare the 2 editions side by side.

See if the differences seam significant.

There was a 2003 revision, but for most point, people just refer to the 98 revision. As noted by the MS C++ team, consider the '03 revision to a be a "service pack". Notable, but everyone refers to the original.

You could use the 3E book, but since you have the 4E book around, use that. The changes made the book much better.

Personally, I never use old computer books. There is a reason for the new edition.

Hello,

Thanks Banfa, oler1s, weaknessforcats......

I must tell that I am sticking to C++ primer 4E.
I scanned the prefaces and contents of both the editions and I can see that a lot of changes are there in both the editions. And so, I had purchased a copy of latest C++ primer 4E :).

Thanks........
