Programmming Real time sound effects?

Is it possible to be able to produce real sound time effects, for example ( bullets hitting off different materials ). Has it already been done?

Hm, I'm a bit puzzled by what you mean by a real time sound effect, or a real sound time effect for that matter. How does the phrase "real time" apply to sound effects?

I don't know the answer, but I think the OP wants to genrate sound effects in a computer game while it's running, and have the sounds modified in special ways depending on what's happening in the game, instead of loading them from a file beforehand. I know there are libraries that can simulate sounds in a 3d enviroment, coming from different directions and bouncing off walls and stuff.

I see. I've played in some music studios before and the sound engineers often layer software filters on the raw instrument sound in real time which have add a barely perceptible millisecond latency so it certainly seems possible.

i was just wondering, to see if could use physics engine to help produce proper sound effects. Trying to figure how to calculate the frequencies from collisions
