Difficulty compiling Dev C++

4
Hi, i know this might sound stupid but i keep getting this error each time when i compile! and have no idea what the comp is taking bout! please help!
"system cannot find specified file"
it also says something about there not seeming to be a GNU make file in path or in Dev C++ bin path.

how do i get this GNU make file etc.

You'd save yourself some of trouble if you used an IDE specifically designed with windows in mind if you're going to be using windows. Dev C++ was good back in the day but its compiler a sometimes buggy windows port of linux's g++ and now the free visual C++ express is a better option in my view.
This being said, how are you compiling your code? If you're using the Dev C++ try to hunt down the command line which it uses to compile your program and post it here, it should be in the options somewhere.

Hi,
So nothing compiles? Do any project templates compile? I use Dev-C++ too. Maybe there's something wrong in your project options (in the Project menu) or compiler options (in the Tools menu).

Prepare your image, make a post, then edit your post and attached the image to it.

I can't remember off the top of my head what the image size restrictions are but they are fairly restrictive particularly for gif images. You may wish either to use a JPEG or to package the image in a zip file.

How about trying the Visual C++ Express? I used it to develop a search engine as a class project and it works really well. It's a free download too.

Ignore all the people saying, "use visual studio express." I find it admirable to not use a bloated ide such as that.

Switch to codeblocks which is the successor to dev-cpp. It's way easier to use and runs much faster than Visual Studio Express. Just make sure you get the mingw part of codeblocks as well, since dev-cpp's included mingw is depreciated & contains bugs (e.g. file writing).

As for bloodshed Dev-Cpp, after you install codeblocks, point all the compiler stuff in tools to codeblocks mingw & still use it if you find it's easier than codeblocks. Or notepad makes a great ide : ) j/k.

Then if you need visual studio, install it and have codeblocks use visual studio's compiler (each project you get to select a compiler you'd like to use).

Also works on Linux as well as Mac, so your projects can be safely copied/ported to those systems (given it uses supported libraries there).

Another useful ide is relo, though codeblocks I believe, depreciated that as well. It has the same capabilities of using multiple compilers.

ps. I've been using dev-cpp even to this day for over 13 years, and codeblocks for over 2 years. It's great if you have an updated mingw distribution & debugging is so much simpler (set a breakpoint. click debug. click step. simple).

With the ability to simply go to "update" and download your favorite api's makes things way simpler than spending hours personally downloading individual api's, configuring, and installing them. Get gentoo linux (or a simpler one like debian/ubuntoo) and ditch windows if you're into that.

Lemme program & do it quickly... Before my ideas have gone away.
