speed of C++ relative to C#.net and Java

There has been much discussion in these groups about the speed of C++
relative that that of Java for performing given functions and when run
on specified compilers. Does anyone know how C++'s speed compares to
C#.net's? Does it depend on the particular task being executed and the
compiler running the code (or not)?

Of course it depends on everything. Try timing your code and find out
how long it takes on any platforms you are interested in.

Yes it depends on many factors. One apparent constant, however, is
that
Java people seem obsessed with devising benchmarks and scenarios to
demonstrate Java matching or superseding C++ performance - search the
archives of this group for many examples. This is a largely futile
activity,
but sadly too many C++ers get sucked in also. There are significant
reasons
to favour C++ over Java and C# that have nothing to do with
performance.
