With today's fashion trends in women's clothing, it can take more
effort to dress for success every day, than to get the job in the
first place.
When you're working every day, you have different roles. You may be
meeting clients, or working at a desk, or going from the office to a
business event. One business outfit doesn't work for every occasion
any more.
Here are 3 tips for dressing for success in 2008

1. Dress for the job you want. You should be dressing for the job you
see yourself doing in that company. If you want to be president or
head of the company, don't wear jeans and a t-shirt, even on business
casual days. Look at the people above you. If they are dressed
conservatively, or wear suits every day, you lessen your chances of
promotion when you wear jeans to the office.
2. Keep up the smart look. You probably showed up for your job in a
business suit, and spent a long time getting ready for the interview.
But once you have the job, the daily struggle of getting ready for the
office makes you grab whatever is available. Be careful about this.
You still need to make sure your wardrobe is fresh. Does that blouse
need a wash? Do those pants need to be cleaned and pressed - or
replaced with an updated style?
3. Dress to impress, not to be noticed for the wrong reasons. When
people notice how you look, are they commenting that you look sharp
and professional, or are they asking if you are going to a party after
work? If people ask you if you have a special occasion, take note of
what you are wearing. Is it too fancy, see through, or somehow
inappropriate for the office? Rethink what you are wearing, so you are
noticed for the right reasons.
