Pose estimation/tracking projects and resources

I'm having a hard time finding any real code for pose tracking.

For those of you not in the know, pose tracking is getting an image, mostly from a webcam or some equivalent, and scanning it to find maybe an object or a face or something to that extent, and calculating how far away it is, exactly.

I've been tasked with doing some of this, and i've found several whitepapers that talk a lot about what it should have, etc. but I was hoping to see how somebody else did their code to help as a jumping off point. Problem is, I can't seem to find any code. Does anybody knows of a simple project or anything like that?

...Additionally, if anybody knows of a good book discussing the subject, I'd love to get the title.

here are some books dealing with that subject

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw...nition&x=0&y=0

I think you will be hard pressed to find any real examples for this unless you are looking at journals or traveling to universities where they do this sort of thing.

Try googling the .edu domain, see if anything pops up.

also a search on http://code.google.com/ reveals many projects already underway working on this same thing.
