hai everyone,
here is a program that i get a different output from the expected ones..
please explain the reason..
let me give u the core..
main( )
{
char a[]="Day";
char a1[]="Good";
int i=strcmp(strcat(a,a1),strcat(a,"good"));
printf("%d",i);
}
and the output i get is 0..but i expected the ascii difference between Gand g
that turns out to be -32..

Your answer lies in the strcmp documentation.

Return Value
Returns an integral value indicating the relationship between the strings:
A zero value indicates that both strings are equal.
A value greater than zero indicates that the first character that does not match has a greater value in str1 than in str2; And a value less than zero indicates the opposite.

Whatever you are putting in there with the other two is equal. Have you tried doing those individually and printing them out to actually see the values you are using?

This code does not work.

You may get a display, but the code crashes with memory corruption around the variable a.

The variable a is a pointer to a literal. Using strcat to append to a pointer when you have not allocated memory at that address is a corruption.

Also, main() returns an int.
