How to Create thread and assign to a process.

I am looking for a good online matrial for thread programming in unix c++.

My requirement is, i need to create a thread and assign that to a process in execution for monitoring. I will start the timer at the same time as process initiated. and if process couldn't able to finish before time out i have to kill that process (terminate the process) using that thread id.

Planning to use sys::threads, but i don't have much idea on threads, any help will be appreciated.

Have you considered using pthreads? I've just had to create a multi-threaded application in C++ with no experience in the language. I found some very useful tutorials online just searching for 'PThreads' in google with loads of sample code, and I got them up and running very quickly.
