What does *bin file means?
Is it a short form for binary file?
Yes ....it is a notation used in Unix/ Linux, normally means that file can be executed by your cpu from the current user.
*<filename>
The current user must have rights to execute this file or * will not appear.
It doesn't mean it is a machine code file.
Example: when you compile a <source_file>.c compiler will generate a.out , typing ls -l a.out you'll see * , this is already machine code.
But if you write a sh script and you give rights for execution you 'll see * as well, however this not machine code since script commands are interpreted during execution without being compiled.
