I don't know if there is a standard library naming/access logic used throughout the linux world. You might want to check the GNU homepage and see what they use and recommend.
For linux, I have found the 'nm -o' command helpful with programs. This creates a listing of all the externals along with the name of the library they were extracted. It will at least tell what library you are working with.
