Forward Declaring enums' for header?

Is it possible to forward declare enums that are defined in a cpp so
that I can have a method defined in the header file with the enum as a
return type?

The user of that function (the includer) would have to see the
definition
of the enum so it has to be defined in *some* *.h file.
