c c++ usb programming

i wuld like to know if anyone knows were i could find a starting place for usb programing?
I wuld like to read an write bites to usb port on the same way you can write tham to printer port in c or c++
looking for a starting point

the problem with USB ports is that they are different for each computer as each workstation might have different hardware (and therefore be using a different drive letter), so it's hard to write large deployment code without getting into the Win32 API. However, if you are just starting out, you can hardcode the path to your drive, you should be able to write to it like you would any folder on your hard drive.
