C++ Has only one dimensional arrays. The number of elements is always the first index. All other indexes describe the elements and these must be known at compile time.

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. int (*array)[4] = new int[var1][4];    //OK
  2. int (*array)[var2] = new int[var1][var2];    //error
  3.
As far as array size goes, the operating system will be used to obtain as much free memory as necessary. On some mainframes, there may be process limits established by a system administrator to prevent a process from hogging the machine.
