access ftp

Hi, I'm trying to access my ftp in my program. I'm using windows so the command, if using the command prompt, would be "ftp <ip-address>" and then it prompts for my username and password. However, I don't want the user to have to type in the username and password because they won't know them. I have tried this:

system("ftp <ip-address>");
system("<username>");
system("<password>");
 

But it doesn't work because it still prompts for the username and password. I then decided to use popen(). However I'm not clear on how to do it with this. This is what I have so far:

FILE *fp;
fp = popen( "ftp <ip-address>", "r");

But I still don't know how to enter my username and password within the program. Any ideas?
