IO layer issue...

Hi,
I am new to software field and in a project meeting i heard my team lead saying someone "u write IO layer"...
What is the meaning of writing IO layer??...Some examples...

Input/Output Layer -> ie the layer that deals with communicating to the outside world (by recieving input eg keyboard/file etc and producing output eg file/screen etc)

It means you call functions (that you write) that accept data tro be written or return data that has been read. The idea is to not have low level disc read/write code spattered throughout your program.
