crc check for exe

can anyone give some idea how crc is used to protect executable files from modification or tampering...

CRC does not prevent modifications, it only lets you know if a modification has occurred. If you compute the crc on a given file and then recompute the crc at some later point you will know the file has changed if the crc values differ.
