Windows specific question

I am wondering if someone knew how some programme/compagny does it to
"patch"
win32 applications. Some example may include Live messenger plus!
which adds features to
msn messenger and seems to do a lot more than what the plugin
architecture permit to. Also, I remember the guys behind KazaaLite
adding tabs to Kazaa. I don't know if they used the same mechanisms
but I'm curious about how they did it.

If someone knows how, or could provide chunks of sample code, i would
really be interested in reading it.

Why are you asking here instead of the newsgroup dedicated to Win32
programming?
