As well as someone whose posting was already deleted and thus would never

I've pointed that out before. Spammers of this sort don't generally
read the newsgroups they spam. Pithy comments are basically a waste and
an annoyance to those who have had the posts filtered one way or
another (NIN does a fairly good job of getting them at the server
level).

You guys are right, and I *should* know better. It was a crappy
morning, and I hit the spam at the exact wrong moment.
