VC 6.0 is missing features implemented in VC 8.0.
Vaious VC 6.0 bugs are fixed only in VC 8.0. Some of these bugs prevents certain template syntaxes from working.
VC 6.0 use the 1998 STL templartes from Dinkumware. VC 8.0 uses a later set aslo with bug fixes.
VC 6.0 does not permit a solution involving more than one language. That is,. you solution cannot be a web page in xml that uses C# and C++ COM objects. You have to handle these separately.

etc..

You have to stay current on your compiler vesions.
