DB question

Hello!
I need to write a small DBMS where I will implement a small part of SQL language. More specificcaly I will have to put some scripts, as "create table", "select", "delete" row e.t.c. , in an input file and get the answers in an output file. I have to mplement that programm in C++.
My problem is that I would like to see some source code of smilar applications in order to understand the problem and to get some ideas. Can you please tell me where I can find that type of code or some documentation about it?

I actually had to write one of these things.

What I did was write a function that toiok the SQL statement as an argument and returned tokens. So if you had:

SELECT NAME, ADDDRESS FROM DATABASE WHERE NAME='Scott';

the function, on successive calls would return:
SELECT
NAME
ADDRESS
FROM
DATABASE
WHERE
NAME
=
Scott

By using these indivual tokens, I converted the SQL into a query for my own database.

Once I got the cursor back, I converted it into a SQL table and was able to process the table.

As I recall, this took me about four months to get working completly. In may case the target database was LDAP so what I was really doing was converting SQL to LDAP, making an LDAP query and convetign the return to a SQL table.

Thanks a lot for the reply! My prject have to be implmeted i C++ so after some thinking I' ve come to believe that I accually have to make a class to imlement lexical analysis to the input file. The truth is that am a new programmer ad even if I have some ideas I don't know how to implement them!!
