This is a frequently asked question here. Please use Google on all questions
before posting.

In short, C++ is a language, and VC++ is one vendor's implementation of that
language, bundled with editors, debuggers, and extensions.

I think that Microsoft's own documentation on this topic:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...78(VS.80).aspx

would prove both more accurate and more helpful than that snide (and
obviously outdated) entry from the FAQ.

Indeed one has to wonder just how current is the FAQ's information and
how many other FAQ entries present the author's personal biases - as
information.

That's like asking what's the difference between a .txt file and
notepad.

Is it not ironic that the faq links to Microsoft's page on VC++?

Agree - I think it's their attempt at a dry sense of humor. Anyway,
CL is the compiler delivered with VC++ (at least the version I have),
so it is at least misleading to call VC++ "a compiler". Like calling
Windows a file system.
