I am selling many of my c++, java, Oracle and Game Programming books

RR
Please take a look at the list of books I am selling for cheap. These prices
are below what the used dealers are selling them for. If you really want a
book and the price is close we may beable to make a deal. I want to get rid
of all these books in the next week. Please look at the link below. It is on
ebay and you will have to page thru the list of all my items to see the
books as they are listed with everything else.

THANKS!

How quaint. You put NOSPAM into your return email address than then
proceed to spam every usenet group you can spell.

We have a usenet group, comp.databases.oracle.marketplace specifically
designated for posting commercial messages and
you somehow seem to have avoided posting to that single appropriate
location.

I therefore urge everyone to ignore your posting until such time as you
post to the correct usenet group and apologize
for not reading the FAQ and for spamming us. We don't ask for a lot ...
just courtesy.

Give me a break!
No, give *us* a break. We're here to discuss C++. That's
the *specific*, *documented* purpose of comp.lang.c++, nothing
else.

We (imo justifiably) take umbrage at having our discussions
interrupted by your spam.
I am an individual trying to sell books of mine.
Your needs cannot justify your discourtesy.
Take a chill pill.
Take a clue pill. You've just probably alienated many
who might otherwise have shown interest in purchasing your
books, had you advertised them in appropriate places instead
of spamming this forum.
If you
cant figure out how to take out the NOSPAM from my email address then thats your problem!

I believe you have misunderstood. There was no complaint
about the (in)ability to 'de-munge' your address. Daniel was
simply commenting upon the irony exhibited by your 'defending'
against spamming, while committing that very offense. He
identified you as a hypocrite. I agree.

If you cannot figure out how to use Usenet courteously,
imo you'll create unnecessary problems for yourself.
Many good clues here: www.usenet.org

Of course the final decision is yours. But I do suggest
a bit of thought before behaving as rashly as you have.

Of course he did you a big favor. He turned one post into three posts. And
what you wanted was exposure. I don't know why so many people can't seem to
figure that out. It really isn't complicated.

Whats wrong with listing a personal ad for C++ books. When I hung around
these groups before when I was a programmer I welcomed these ads to get good
books at cheap prices.

There is nice amount of hostility here. If you dont like it then DONT READ

From your apparent perspective, I suppose that's a
legitimate question.

The answer can be determined by reading the following, which you
should have done *before* posting here in the first place:
http://www.slack.net/~shiva/welcome.txt
When I hung around
these groups before when I was a programmer I welcomed these ads to get good books at cheap prices.
Your desires do not determine the purpose of this newsgroup.

There are already well-publicized places for trading of
used items, etc., e.g. eBay, 'for sale' and 'wanted'
newsgroups, etc.
There is nice amount of hostility here. If you dont like it then DONT READ
IT!

If you want to avoid the hostility, stop spamming.
That's not so hard to understand, is it?

BTW your top-posting only adds to the resentment.

Joke or not, I once posted to GIVE books away, just having the taker send
postage. Not only was it taken as spam, but people didn't trust me to send
the book for the postage (actually, I offered to send it first and get
reimbursed for the exact amount). I get books for review and don't need this
many lying around. There's probably about 50 here now. I now just throw them
out.

Rya

The question Ryan is not one of chilling and it is most certainly not
one of being able to figure out your
email address. It is one of hypocrisy and learning living within the
rules of etiquette.

You apparently don't see a contradiction in asking people not to spam
you while spamming them. And
you apparently don't see a contradiction in asking people to do you a
favour and purchase your books
while at the same time clearly communicating that you don't give a damn
about them.

I an assure you none of my students will be buying your books. And I
hope no one else here does either.

PS: An apology and repost would have taken fewer keystrokes and sold
your books: Ponder that.

You could say the same thing about Viagra ads too, couldn't you? For that
matter, why do you have NOSPAM in your return address? I mean, if you don't
like all that email, DON'T READ IT! Hopefully you've put 2 and 2 together.
For sale posts don't belong here. There would be too much traffic.
