File I/O problem...

I made my own Dynamic array holder and now i want to read into it from a file i was wondering if anyone could kind of put me on the right track here is what i have.

ifstream ifl;
ifl.open("items.shp", ios_base::in);
ifl >> size;

dline.append(line); //line giving me errors
cout << line << endl;
}
ifl.close();
return 0;
};

I was thinking i might have to make a variable for each of them and then append one at a time. Any suggestions?

well, youve initialized dline to be a DynArray constructed of type "item" . . . have you implemented an append() as part of class DynArray that takes one string as its parameter and puts all the info in the right places in a new "item" struct which it then appends to the end of your DynArray? i dont think it makes sense to write DynArray to be this specific. indeed, the power of templates is the ability to be general-purpose.

i would think it makes sense to parse your input manually and then store each piece into dline[xxx].type, dline[xxx].name, etc seperately.
