can any expert out there answer this?

HELP!
we were given a problem:
enter strings and print out the strings inputted with the letters appearing only once. I dont have any idea at all!!! This program will be passed to our teacher after 20 mins. and until now i haven't figured this out!!!

Ex. input=discussions
output=discuon
