simple type conversion question

Hi, I got a question a tricky type conversion:

double * ==> const double * and
double ** ==> const double * const * are both permitted, while
double ** ==> const double ** is NOT permitted.

Why is that? I checked the FAQ but found no answers.

Thanks.

Check the FAQ again, it's in there.
